How NOB thinks: the four screens, Savia and the engine room
Simple up front, powerful behind #
NOB has two faces. The front speaks human language and asks only what is indispensable: "You have 3 important things", "What is this?", "Generate". The back is a complete accounting engine. Every human action maps to exact, deterministic operations: an approved document becomes a balanced journal entry; an answered "what is this?" becomes the right posting; a generated filing is built from the ledgers by rules with a legal source.
Every front screen has a See explanation link that opens the back: the rule applied, its legal article, the numbers used. You never have to read it, but it is always there.
The four screens #
- Today — your five minutes: the three most important things, money at a glance, what NOB did on its own, and a traffic light by area.
- Sowing (selling) — clients, products, quotes with e-signature, sales, POS, invoices, payments.
- Harvest (money) — bank and documents in one timeline, "what is this?", the document inbox, taking money out of the company, the balance.
- Roots (obligations) — the calendar of filings and payments with a Generate button on each.
Plus Savia, the assistant available on every screen, and the Engine room, where the expert screens live: auditor, ledgers, bank, partners, tax optimiser, company profile, rules, users, settings, license.
On a phone or tablet #
NOB is the same application on every screen. On a desktop the menu is the left sidebar. On a phone the five screens sit in a bar at the bottom, and the button at the top right opens the full menu: company switch, engine room, manual, profile, language and sign out. Wide tables scroll sideways inside their card. Savia's leaf button stays above the bottom bar.
The LLM interprets; NOB determines #
This is the design rule behind everything AI does in NOB. Language models read documents, classify, explain and draft. They never decide a number, a date, a VAT rate or a deadline: those come from SQL queries and from the rules engine. When Savia quotes a figure, it is because she called a tool that ran a query; the tool name appears under her answer as a source.
Rules as data, not code #
Polish tax knowledge lives in a table of 117 rules, each with a type (obligation, calculation, validation, opportunity), a condition written in a small expression language over your profile (for example forma == 'sp_zoo' and vat == 'czynny'), parameters (rates, thresholds, deadlines), a validity period, and a legal source (act and article). Obligations are generated from the rules that apply to your profile; calculations read parameters from them; the auditor's checks are rules; tax-saving opportunities are rules.
When the consolidated text of a law changes (NOB refreshes the 12 acts weekly from the Sejm's ELI API), any rule citing a changed article produces a yellow finding "Review rule X", with Savia's draft of what may need to change. Nothing changes on its own.
Profile versions and periods #
Your company profile is versioned by date. If you register for VAT on 1 March, documents dated in February are still booked under the exempt regime and March obligations follow the active-VAT rules. Engine room → My company shows the history.
Precedents #
Every approval and correction you make is stored as a precedent: "invoices from this supplier go to category X, business unit Y". The next document from the same supplier is proposed the same way with higher confidence, and Savia can cite your own precedents when you ask.
Money in grosze, dates in ISO #
Internally every amount is an integer of grosze (cents), which is why totals always add up exactly. Exchange rates come from the National Bank of Poland (NBP) using the rate of the last business day before the document date, as the law requires.
What runs by itself #
Every 5 minutes: the queue (reading documents, indexing, translations). Every night: rates, obligations, supplier checks, depreciation, the auditor, expiring records, license, updates, backup. Weekly: legal corpus refresh and the AI review of the month. Everything NOB did appears under What NOB did on its own in Today, so nothing happens behind your back.
